Hot start trouble
(1/1)
flyboy:
My GTO starts right up when cold, idles and runs perfectly. When I try to restart when warm (5 minutes to an hour post shut down) it starts very hard and puffs fuel smoke. Cliff rebuilt it, and I sent it back to have him check it out again, but starts fine on his test engine. What else could cause this apparent flooding after shut down? Any suggestion is appreciated, this has been driving me crazy for a long time. Thanks

couple of question? what fuel are you burning ? how much ethanol?i found on my FORD LTD with the quad. that if i used mid grade fuel or fuel with a lot of ethanol it did the same thing. i fixed the problem i only put in good gas with no ethanol.hope this helps. dean

Does the smoke look black like a too rich mixture? Could be as simple as adjusting the choke to a leaner setting.

after you shut engine down, take off air cleaner right away, and look down carb. and see if there
is gas slowly dripping from squirters into throat area of carb. This will tell you if you have a needle
and seat and or excessive pressure problem.
