base gasket-plate

 I removed the Q-jet from my 1976 455 TransAm today. I found a thick gasket between the carb and a metal plate, but there was no gasket between the plate and the manifold. There was a sealant used under the plate on the intake side. Is this normal? Are should a gasket been there?

Later EGR intakes used the steel plate, it needs to be there......Cliff
