Base Plate Removal Question
(1/1)
FirebirdMan68:
I recently ordered one of Cliff's HP rebuild kits and a bushing rebuild kit as well. I am running into a little bit of trouble removing the throttle shafts that hold the linkage. I can't seem to remove the secondary positive pin no matter how hard I try. Beating on it seems to just bow the top of it and would make it impossible to pound out once i got it down far enough. If someone could tell me the correct way to safely remove the base plate throttle shafts and linkage that would be extremely helpful. Thanks.
Cliff Ruggles:
The pin does NOT get removed from the shaft, and most attempts to drive it out will bend the shaft and could crack the baseplate.
Remove the outer spring on the other side by holding the secondary throttle plates closed and turning the outer linkage enough to remove it from the end of the shaft. Then carefully remove the linkage and inner spring, the shaft will then slide right out the other direction.....Cliff

Thank you,
This helped me too. Once I got that spring off, it came out with ease!!!
