Idle Problems On Q-jet Carb

(1/1)

Mr48willys:
hi
Yesterday i tried tunning in my Q-jet carb. I hooked up my vacuum gauge and tac dwell meater. Set my timming to 6 degrees that is stock on my truck. My APT is set to two turns out from bottom. I adjusted my idle mixture screws till I got my best vacuum and my best idle. At that point in time my truck ran Great had no problems what so ever. So I thought it was good. Later that night i took it for another drive around the block and thats when I ran into problems. It would not idle or it would idle really rough. I checked all my vacuum lines and all were fine and all in place. Idk if the problems are in my vacuum lines or if thats a carb promblem? Thought I would post on here and see if I could get any help. If any more info needed just ask.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thank You

Shark Racer:
When the idle gets rough grab a flashlight and look down the primary bores. Tell us what you see. I was actually getting flooding in mine a while back and had to lower the float a little bit.

What is the casting # on the quadrajet?

Cliff Ruggles:
If it ran fine then something changed after the test drive.  Timing still set at 6 degrees?

Check the flooding issue?

Dirt/debris in the carb plugging up the idle tubes?.....Cliff

Mr48willys:
