PAINTING CARB

(1/1)

89SS196:
My q-jet is black from the factory.  That's how they make them.  I am in process of dipping this weekend and I'd like to know what's the smart approach to redoing any paint that comes off the carburetor.  I kind of like the natural look of the zinc chromate with greenish brown topcoat.  Or even grey.  Is this possible and what's the best home process.  Do I use gel paint remover 1st?  Or just go over the existing paint?
If it's too big a deal maybe I can redo the black.  How is that done?

Ethan1:
Send it to Cliff! He does awesome zinc chromate recoloring. I would contact him. 8)

I have tried two brands of carb paint and both melt away with fuel spray.  The only process that will hold is the dichromate dip.

Ethan1:
Yeah, the stuff you get in the can may look nice after spraying it on the carb, but soon as it gets some fuel on it, it will dissolve it. :-\
