Carb Cleaner Parts Dipper ?
« on: November 27, 2012, 12:24:44 PM »
B-12 and NAPA have a gallon can with a mesh bucket strainer.  Anyone know if a QuadraJet will fit in this?  I am guess ing I might need something bigger.

Thoughts?

You can probably fit the linkage, shafts and smaller parts in there, but not the carb itself. :(

Berryman is ok to use, but the last time I used it, I wasn't impressed. They have taken some of the active cleaners out of it, so it doesn't do as well as it used to. Maybe it's changed? I like to use the gallon bottle of Castrol Super Clean. Just don't let it sit in there too long, or it will start eating the plating off the throttle plates.

Thanks.  Someone mentioned that there were two different Berryman solutions for carb cleaner.  Too many options.  I think I might try the NAPA stuff and just get on with life.

Currently available "dips" and carb cleaners are marginal at best for performance.  You can do just as well with mineral spirits and some soft brass and nylon brushes.

Compressed air is a must, to blow gunk out of passages, and manual cleaning with small drill bits or wire is also a good idea.....Cliff

NICE!

I think your first link is misquoted since they are both the same.  Being that I have seen the pricing go from $22 to $40 for the 960z cleaners I like the Pinesol method as I then can afford more of Cliff's stuff !  I think I may go to the GoodWill store and look for some old cooking pots and maybe something to use as a stainer.

No big deal.

I went the way of getting some PineSol.  Costco had a 1.5 gallon (175 ounces) for $10.  DollarTree had a bucket and some brushes.  Wally had a metal colander for $4 and a coat hanger for a handle.  I'm good to go for under $20 bucks.
