Secondary air flap reassembly

Hopefully these questions are just "the only dumb question is the one that you don't ask" kind.

I have a replacement secondary flap cam that I just installed.  While putting it in, it occurred to me to ask if it can be put in backwards.  It looks like it can't fit wrong, but I want to ask so I can feel comfortable that it's right.
When the flap is closed the follower sits on top of the cam at the slight notch in the exterior of the cam.
It looks as if it wouldn't fit the other way.

Also, the secondary air flap return spring is in.  The hook that attaches the spring to the flap shaft pin slides along the pin when the shaft turns.  In the closed position the hook is really near the end of the pin.  Can the spring hook fall off?  And should I bend it a tad to reduce that possibility?
I still have the original spring, and it is fine, but it's 24 years old so I thought I'd use the new one.  The hook end of the original spring has an arc in it and the replacement spring has a 90 degree bend.

All my parts are from Cliff.  I don't have a great camera, but if necessary I can beg a pretty good one from my daughter.

The cam only goes in one direction.

The spring is designed to slide on the pin, and is out near the outer edge at rest.  Apply some grease to it to help it out some....Cliff

Cliff thank you for you personal attention and help on this.
My carb looks great, I redid the OE black paint while I had it off the boat.  Also I removed the paint from all the linkages and replaced the dead vacuum break with a new white one from Cliff's.
Now I have to wait til next spring to check my work!
