First of all, I am a new member to this Forum. I belong to the pyforums, and always enjoy learning from Cliff.
I have a service replacement Rochester carb, 17054909, I bought new around 1983, still in the box.
The only information I can find, is that it is for the 1972 455 HO Pontiac. Is this a 800 CFM carb and what do I need to make this work on a lightly modified RA III GTO, and with today's gasoline?

 Welcome to CHP!

 You are indeed correct. The 17054909 is a Service Replacement carb for the '72 Pontiac Firebird and GTO HO 455cid. As for being an 800CFM model, probably not. I believe the 800CFM model was used in '71 for Pontiac. In '72, they were 750CFM. As for working on your Ram Air III, Cliff would be the better one to answer. For today's gas, I would order a rebuild kit and parts for it from Cliff. His kits are top-notch and will resist the high ethanol content in todays gas.

Nice carb, and it will be the smaller casting using the outer booster ring, not single booster like the 1971 HO units.

It will need a rebuild kit with Viton parts.  I would also get jets and metering rods, as those were pretty lean right out of the box.  This new fuel requires more of it, and the older engine will be happier if it's recalibrated.

Thanks Cliff. We are still going over the engine rebuild and modifications. As soon as I know what I will have, I will order everything I need for the carb. Should be this week.
