early 1975 APT quadrajet
« on: March 24, 2013, 06:45:25 AM »
I have an early 1975 quadrajet with the APT feature in the front right corner of the bowl as well as the second power piston with the single metering rod.  My Question is this,  can I just plug the jets under these two features and use larger jets and metering rods in the rear well?  It currently has 67 jets and 41j rods on this power piston.  I would also have to plug the top of the foreward well since the vacuum source for both of the wells comes from the front well.  Does this modification sound feasable and does anyone know of a reason it might not work?  Any input would be appriciated.

this carb isn't for any numbers matching application or anything,  I'm going to put it on an old chevy truck I have that has a 454 with an RV cam.  the old carb is in pretty good shape, and I primarily want to go through it and apply some of the stuff I learned from Cliffs book.  I think I'll drill and tap the two pressed in jets and plug them with a 10-32 set screw coated with epoxy.  I'm thinking 72 jets and 45 rods for starters?  With no APT adjustment, I'll have to do some close measurement and adjust the height of the PP hangers.  I just love tinkering with these things and want to see if I can make it work well using some of Cliffs black magic.  Thanks for the response bbf429.  This is a great forum.

429bbf, thanks for the generous offer.  I'm hoping that it turns out that the modifications work well and I won't need your carb.  But stand by, I may just take you up on it.

I would use the factory 41 metering rods, plug the single jet and hole for the second power piston, and go to a larger jet.  Leave the APT operational.  Depending on the application, 71-73 jets should be a good place to be....Cliff
