Quadrajet ID info
« on: May 04, 2013, 05:12:45 AM »
Hello from a brand new newbie, my name is Fred. A friend sent me this link to hopefully ID a carb I just re-found cleaning my Mothers' attic last week. In the mid '80's, I thought I needed a carb for my GTO. A friend at a parts store told me he could get the right one for the car. I bought it, and then forgot about it as the driveability problem was traced to the distributor. Fast forward to now and I have a red and white GM box with a new, never installed Rochester quadrajet I know nothing about. The part number on the box is 17054819 and underneath that is 22-6057. On the left side of the carb stamped vertically is the number 17054910. There is a small yellow sticker on the left rear that says service. On the right rear mounting flange is the number 2847, looks like it was put on with a magic marker? If anyone on this site can shed any light on this carb, I will appreciate their wisdom in advance. Thank you very much.

Actually, the number stamped vertically on the left side is probably the correct part #. 17054910 was a Service Replacement for the '73-'74 Olds 455cid SD A/T. The correct part numbers it was to replace were, 7043270 (1973) and 7044270 (1974). I also believe this is the 800CFM version as well. It came with .075 Primary Jets, 49B Primary Metering Rods, K Secondary Hanger and BV Secondary Metering Rods.

Excuse me. The application for that carb was for a '73-'74 Pontiac 455cid SD A/T. Sorry. :)

    Hello and thanks all,

To 429bbf, thanks, the GTO was a 72 Ram Air 455 HO M-22, loved that whine. My buddy at the time said the original was no longer available but he could get me a better carb. As I am remembering, he put the carb in a lesser value leftover carb box to lower the price.

To Ethan1, thanks,  I am remembering more and a later HiPo carb is what I think my friend said, but don't know where he is now.

Obvious question is what is this worth as from past parts experience with Ram Air, HO and older Tripower stuff, 455 SD parts were never easy or cheap to come by even back then and how does being a service carb affect this? Thanks again.

The 17054910 is a SR for the Pontiac SD 455's.  They are really nice carbs, and somewhat valuable, but no where near what an original dated unit would be.

They are among the few Q-jets made before 1975 that had the larger primary bores, dubbed as "800" cfm units......Cliff
