Idle Air Mixture Screws little or no effect
bnorris_74:
I sealed the screen-vent area and still have the sputter from a WOT start.
The sputter is not present from WOT at higher RPM's. I have adjusted the secondary tension from 1/2 to 3/4 turns and have the pull off set at 2 seconds.
Any ideas?
bnorris_74:
I'm about to give up.
Worked on the carb the last two days and still cannot eliminate the sputter from a WOT start from a dead stop.
No sputter anywhere from 2K RPM up.
I'm ready to put it in a box and send it to you Cliff.
Schurkey:
Accelerator pump shoots gas even if you don't "whack" the throttle open?
bnorris_74:
Yes, pumps shoots through the entire range of travel.
I changed the primary rods to a 45L yesterday thinking it needed leaned out but it still does it the same thing.
It gives me the impression of running rich during these episodes and then finally blows itself clear and runs great once it cleans out.
I'm running a lot of things thru my mind trying to figure this out. One thing I thought is that maybe with the stock converter I'm not coming out at a high enough RPM for this recipe. Thoughts?
bnorris_74:
Yesterday I did a couple of quick 3/4 throttle openings by hand and noticed that there was drops of fuel coming up past the upper secondary flaps. Seems like that is where the sputtering could be coming from.
I adjusted the pull off to around 1.5 and 1 seconds and 3/8 turn on the tensioning spring but still have the sputter at WOT starts.
Again, it runs great from a higher RPM.
