Set Up On my 17057274 q-jet
« on: August 20, 2013, 11:50:34 AM »
I finished installing a rebuild kit, jets, rods and bushings all from Cliff.  I also upgraded my 17057274 to recipe 3.  I am now going through carb setup.

My questions are; at idle, does the primary throttle plates need to be closed all the way? Or open just enough to provide some air/fuel?  If they need to be open is there a spec I can set them to?  Such as X number of turns on the idle speed stop screw (this controls throttle plate angle).    Or should I set the gap between the throttle plate and primary barrel wall with a feeler gauge?

thanks, bt

I found the answer to the first part of my question.  Still looking for spec info if it exists.

Idle speed will need to be set once the carb is placed in service.  On the bench they should be open slightly, just far enough so the leading edge of the blades is just below the ported vacuum slot in the baseplate for the vacuum advance.....Cliff
