float adjustment
« on: December 14, 2013, 10:50:45 AM »
i was watching a guy rebuild a q-jet. the way he adjusted the float was pretty interesting.
what he did was take the whole carburetor and flipped it over with his thumb on the float
pivot pin. he then took his float adjustment tool and kept measuring and adjusting the float,
(by taking the float out and bending) until he had the adjustment he wanted.
i would just like to no if cliff or anyone else on this forum has adjusted their float this way.
i no its gravity working on the float instead of finger pressure. it seems to make sense to me.
this guy told me he's been doing this since the 60's and never has had a problem with this method.
any input would be appreciated.

Inverting the carb is a real PITA.  Install an old fuel filter spring with a coil or two cut off of it under the float to put upward pressure on it, push the hinge pin down, and take your measurements.  I prefer this method or just gently pushing to float against the needle while holding the hinge pin in place......Cliff
