vent tube slash

(1/1)

qjetsrule:
is there any advantage to slashing the vent tube and why did some mfgs. do  this ? thanks

omaha:
I think it has something to do with the fuel slosh and the fact that the tube is close to the air cleaner (some) remember that a holley design breathes through the tube alone. when the tube is slashed you can have contact with the air cleaner and not worry about the venting. also it prevents somewhat fuel spill into the carb  under hard acceleration. I am not 1005 sure on this so don't take it as gospel.

Cliff Ruggles:
Few cars leave hard enough to throw any fuel out the front vent, but it doesn't hurt to put a fwd slash on the vent, and most HP factory carburetors had this.  For Marine applications we want to use a rear slash to put any fuel from flooding into the engine and not into the bilge, per USGC requirements......Cliff
