1967 gto dashpot - Rochester 4bbl
« on: March 30, 2014, 10:26:54 AM »
I have a 1967 gto with a T400 (built in Dec '66) that currently has a rebuilt quadrajet installed.  It is missing the vacuum activated dashpot and has the associated vacuum line temporarily plugged.  I believe I have the original bracket that was removed when the original carb was removed.  It seems to fit over the U-shaped vacuum line and ends at the appropriate open vacuum line and throttle linkage.  The dashpot was cut off this bracket when removed, but the bracket still appears to be serviceable.  Does anyone have a part# for the replacement dashpot for a 4bbl AT set-up?  The ones I have seen do not have the same bracket as mine and appear to be for a 2bbl and not 4bbl application.  Also, does anyone have a photo or diagram showing the correct plunger clearance with the throttle linkage when installed?

I attached a generic photo of the part I'm looking for.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Andy

 Welcome to CHP!

What carb number are we talking about here?

Thanks for the welcome.

The one on the car is a 1968 and from a Buick I believe.  It is stamped 7028244 A KA.  The original M6 still in my possession is 7027262.  I'd like to put the original back on but the fuel intake was stripped during a failed rebuild 12 years ago.  Hopefully I can swap it in when I get around to re-taping the intake and doing a new rebuild.

So, are we talking about the Buick carb or Pontiac carb?

I assume you are talking about the Buick carb. Correct part number for the dashpot is 7038237 and for the bracket 7036771. What was your other question in your first post?

Thanks for the part numbers- yes I am currently talking about the Buick carb.

The other question was more of an installation/alignment question.  The original carb and dashpot were removed before I owned the car and I wasn't sure if I could re-use the bracket from the Pontiac carb and have the dashpot align correctly on the Buick carb, or if I needed to source a different bracket.  I am also trying to determine if I need to install at a specific clearance between the dashpot plunger and throttle lever.

The bracket for the dashpot looks the same between both carbs, but with different part numbers. Wouldn't hurt to try though. Not sure on your other question. Cliff would be best to answer this. ;)

Thanks Ethan.  You've been very helpful.  I'll check with Cliff on the alignment question as I also need his input on repairing the fuel inlet for the original Pontiac Qjet.

Ethan

I can't seem to locate a source for these part numbers. I checked on the Pontiac registry site and the GM/Delco part number for the 1967 quadrajet dashpot is 7026290 (or DP 102 for replacements). It's noted as a "Throttle Return Check Assembly".  The bracket/lever and the diaphragm appear to be integrated as a single unit - same as the photo I attached to the original post.  Since the bracket I have appears to fit both the original 67 carb and the Buick 68 on the car, I'm hoping to find the 7026290 part with the integrated bracket so I can use with the either carb. Any ideas on where to locate one?

7026290 I believe is the correct part #. Best place to look is on eBay or post a wanted ad on PY forums or on here. Sorry I can't help out much. One just sold on eBay for over $200.
