DO CARBS NEED TO BE LEVEL

(1/1)

hmatthiesen:
I have twin 350 cu in (270 hp) chevy's in a boat with q-jet carbs.  The engines are mounted on an angle. The carbs now sit on a wedge of about 4 degrees, (1/2 inch high at down hill side).  However this still does not make the carbs level even at rest.  The wedge would have to be another 1/4 high, a total of about 7 degrees to make them level at rest.  The boat rises about another 3 degrees while crusing at the low speeds we now cruise at.  So at speed the wedge would have to give about 10 degrees rise to make the carb level.  Question.  how important is it that the carbs be level and what are the tolerances.  Are there wedges out there that give more than the 4 degrees that has always been on the motor?  thanks  hmatthiesen

Cliff Ruggles:
They will work fine with the stock wedges.  The jets are mounted in the bottom of the fuel bowl, so the q-jet by design will tolerate pretty steep angles without any issues.  We actually set quite a few up for folks who use them on trucks for rock climbing....Cliff
