What Is It? 17057274 q-jet front vent??

Refer to page 75 upper left hand corner of Cliff's book.  What is that part called directly behind the screwdriver?  Is it the front vent?   Is there supposed to be a hose or filter that fits over it to keep dirt out?

 I believe it is the front vent. It was used on that style carb from '75-'79 if I remember correctly.
