Quadrajet Leaking Like crazy between carb and intake
cj7:
Hey guys, I'm a little new to carbs and engines in general and I'm learning as I go, so my problem is I'm trying to start my Chevy 350 for the first time, and decided to put on a quadrajet that i rebuilt (i am no expert so, so this can be part of my problem) I epoxied the plugs because i heard they can leak. Also my fuel pump is rated at 4-9 PSI. So when i turn just the fuel pump on, the carb seems to be fine, but as soon as i start to crank, engine starts to stutter, and gas leaks from between the carb and the intake pretty fast. Within seconds i have a good size puddle of gas on both sides of the intake and it seems to leak a little between the air horn and the body of the carb, where the bowl is towards the front of the carb. My buddy also said one of the headers was shooting a constant flame for a few seconds( don't know if that helps) my question is, whats the problem and how can i fix it? I'm thinking a fuel regulator may help, but is there something else going on like something warped? Also, because the gaskets leaked do they need to be replaced, or can i reuse them?
P.S. my timing is not dialed in and neither is the carb because i have not been able to start it yet
Carb is out of a 79 k10 cast number 17058213
Thanks a lot guys, I cant wait to start it up for the first time ;D

Welcome to CHP!
You said you epoxied the plugs. Did you drill out the old primary and secondary ones? Or did you put epoxy over the area of the plugs? What epoxy did you use?

As for leaking around air horn, it could mean the air horn is warped, wrong gasket, etc. What is the float height?

thanks for replying so fast, i did not drill the plugs, and the epoxy i used was a generic brand my auto parts store had, i was told it was similar to JB weld, and was supposed to be gas resistant. and as for the air horn possibly being warped, is that a simple fix or do i need to replace it
thanks.

Sounds like it's flooding, and you have a pretty big leak at the base gasket.
Did you use one of our kits?.....Cliff
