Edelbrock metering rods compatability
oktorque:
It seems Cliff doesn't sell the size I was looking for, but I found them made by edelbrock. I was wondering if they are compatible with the 1705-- post 1975 QJ's? Does anyone know?
Thank you.
Cliff Ruggles:
Edelbrock, to my knowledge only sells the "M" series for the later carburetors with the .036" tips. They will only work in the SMAB models. The other rods they sell are for the early style carbs and are too long for the later models....Cliff

Thanks, Cliff. I drilled out the idle down restrictions to make room for your new ones. One came out fully. The other one drilled through, but left the outside ring of the restriction in the orifice. Is that okay to leave?
When I drilled them I slightly disturbed the tiny surface area between the idle hole and the tiny ridge that seals the mating surface to the air horn. It flaked up a tiny bit where the idle air bleed hole joins it. It did not disturb the ridge, but does expose a minute area of the bleed to the surface. Is that a problem?
I am working on a 17059272. I switched carbs.
Cliff Ruggles:
Use a .106" drill bit to "spin" the DCR out of the bore, it needs to be removed to install a new one.
Clean up the upper idle airbleed holes without opening them up and things will be fine.....Cliff
oktorque:
Well, there was only a slight outer ring remaining in one hole. I didn't know any better so I tapped in the new one. I hope that doesn't mess it up. I can pull it out if you think I should.
Thanks.
