Choke pulloff setting
« on: February 26, 2015, 10:51:14 AM »
Guys,

I was just curious what sort of settings have you ended up with on your choke pulloffs to get a good, consistent cold start?  Specifically, I am wondering what your air horn to top of choke flap measurement is.

I have tried .250 and a few turns of the adjustment screw either way and it is good especially considering it is less than 20* outside, but it will still slowly stall after 5-10 seconds on the first few tries.  I was hoping I could get it even better.  Also, is this a setting a should be able to leave alone during warmer weather when the car will actually be driven, or do you guys tweak this setting for hot vs. cold weather?

Thanks!

i set mine fairly tight .125 appox trial and error . the reason is with the electric choke , all i do in the summer is turn the key on for about a minute without cranking . pump once and every things fine . once i get a choke set for nice starts at 0 to -20 i don't mess with it .on another note ,I've noticed if my rig sets for a spell (i do not have an electric fuel pump) it may fire up and die but only because the carb is low on fuel. not because my choke setting  has changed or needs adjustment. fwiw

It may take a few attempts, but there will be an ideal setting for every carb.  Don't forget fast idle speed, it's a big player in the choke pull-off setting on cold starts as well.

It usually takes several attempts starting from dead cold to nail down the best setting(s), but once you get the carbs choke system dialed in, it's pretty much a done deal.  NEVER any need to tune for different seasons, weather conditions, etc.....Cliff

3/16's works for me with around  1200 rpm at initial start.
