New guy with a Quadrajet and a question.....

jakenok:
Hi everyone, my name is Jake and I recently picked up a nice 1974 era QJet (I'll get the number tonight) Chevy federal model carb. I dated it based on the info on the site here. My application is a 1987 Corvette, with a L98 engine, basically stock with the 083 heads (this is an iron head engine from a '89 Pontiac GTA). I may change the heads later to get some more horsepower, and maybe a mild cam upgrade too. The car is a semi daily driver. The engine has a Wieand Street Warrior intake and th eengine is fired by an Accel HEI. Car has a 700R4 transmission and 3.07 rear gears. Currently the car has an Edelbrock 1406 on it.

questions:

1. Is this a decent carb for this car? (its very clean and looks not to have been "factory rebuilt")
2. It has a divorced choke and my manifold does not have provisions for the choke stove to attach.
    any viable solutions?
3. If I choose to run it without a choke, must I remove the divorced choke apparatus?
4. I'm on a pretty tight budget, so I guess I am looking for ways to use this carb.

You can probably use, it but post the number when you get it.

With the divorced choke on carb, and no provisions on the intake, I would remove all of the choke components on the carb.  It won't be useful unless you wanted to wire a manual choke cable.  I have seen several people try to rig up an electric choke to the divorced choke carbs, but I have not heard of any good solution.

Also check your throttle arm to make sure you have what you would need for transmission.

1974. Do not think I would start with that carb though.

By the way, Welcome to CHP.

Thanks for the welcome. Why wouldn't you use it?
