Carb suggestion for street 383
Marx3:
Hi, a buddy of mine is about to "downgrade" his 383, currently it has an 850 DP on top of a 3500-up intake and a Trick flow top-end kit ( TFS-K314-490-440 ). converter and gearing is all mad for racing, and as of now the car has little to zero throttle response, and not much driveability on the street. he will never race the car. He keeps the TF-heads and gets a smaller cam/intake combo, something like Edelbrock RPM. ( converter and gearing will be changed later on also )
So my question is; would a 17080215 be a good modifying object? I am thinking recipe 1, maybe 2? If I remember correct an RPM cam makes around 14-15 Hg in idle at best...
Marx3:
Forgot to write that it is a stroked Chevy 350, CR 10.5. So recipe 1 or 2?
Cliff Ruggles:
I would need the cam specs to recomend and exact "recipe" to set the carb up with. It would also help to know the current specs of the carb you are about to modify?.....Cliff
Marx3:
Sorry, i am gonna go with a lunati
# Advertised Duration (Int/Exh): 268/276
# Duration @ .050 (Int/Exh): 227/233
# Gross Valve Lift (Int/Exh): .489/.504
# LSA/ICL: 110/106
# Valve Lash (Int/Exh): Hyd/Hyd
# RPM Range: 1800-6200
The carb has been lying disassembled for a while, but it has
73 jets
46k rods
I have both M and N hangers
AK, CH and DX rods
It has front and rear vacuumbreak.
Dont know about idle tubes and such, haven't bought anything to measure with yet.
But I am definately bying whichever kit you determine i will need, including jets/rods. Whatever it takes!
Btw: I also have a 17080273 lying around, computermodel from a 301 turbo T/A.
Cliff Ruggles:
Still a pretty "hefty" cam for a 383 engine. It will idle decent, but still need some additional idle fuel and idle bypass air. I lean more toward the 3rd recipe, but don't open up the idle down channel restrictions past about .052" on the first test. If it acts a tad lean, you can go up to .055" or even .059", if/as needed.....Cliff
