I am rebuilding the original 400 in my 1968 GTO convertible and am trying to decide what to do with the carb. The car is a manual transmission.  I have a friend who gave me an 800 cfm Quadrajet 17057274 which is for an automatic 1977 LeMans. I am going to stroke the 400 to a 461 and figured I would need the 800 cfm.  Which carb would be best, the original or the other?

knucklehead12:
Or third option, keep looking for a manual trans carb that is 800 cfm?

Ethan1:
I would go with the 17057274.

Frank400:
So would I.  One of the best ones, isn't that the one Cliff uses on his own car ?  I'm pretty sure it has the POE under the secondary air door instead of over, which is another plus.

Does it make any difference that it is for an automatic and I have a manual trans?  I assume I can change the linkage to get rid of the kickdown forthe auto trans. Besides that and figuring out the appropriate rod jet combo, is there anything else that would need to be done?
