metering rods for 7040262= 44 or 44B

Mr.Pontiac:
mY CARB.  is very nice condition . it has 72 jets but the metering rods are unreadable. I believe they should be 44 but also reading 44B will work. Witch one,s do i need for this carb. So whats the differance between 44 & 44 B rods???? everything i read says 44B are for 74 & earlier carbs./

B series rods will work fine in those carburetors, but .044's are pretty lean in that carb with 72 main jets.  I'd install 42's instead.....Cliff
