Ok - trying to rebuild a quadrajet...  I've attached a pic of my power piston.  I am "concerned" for a couple of reasons.
1.  the bushing on the top - should it be snug on the piston? Mine is very loose...  It should fit snuggly back into the carb - right?  Mine is a 17083224 (GMC 305) but I noted that for an earlier year they sold a "replacement bushing" that is slotted to slip on piston so you don't have to disassemble...  It was $2.50 so I ordered it - think it will fit?
2.  Should I soak the whole thing in carb cleaner?  or - soak all but the bushing?
3.  On the "bottom" - In what order do those three items go on? (spring - washer - bushing)?  How should they "fit"?
I'm not real experienced - please "spell it out" for me as best you can...?
Thanks VERY much! - These forums are awesome.

the book is full of straight forward info that is easy to understand. second order is to buy a quality carb kit . cliff sell a good one . (ask anybody the used the over the counter ) there junk. you end up doing the work twice answers to question . loose on piston tight on carb.totally disassemble carb and clean and size all holes (this will be hard to do if your nor familiar with these monsters. the only thing that goes under the piston is the spring. hth

Thank you VERY much for the reply. One follow up...  If the spring is the only thing under the piston, where do the washer and gasket (pictured) go...?

just by looking at the picture the gasket could go in the side by the choke shaft or in the top of carb where the acelerator pump shaft goes through and also the washer . sorry but i dont have them in my hand. did you take this thing apart?

carmantx:
Spring in the bottom.  No washer or spacer needed, those don't belong with the power piston.  Use some 000 steel wool to clean the surface.  You should also have a spring to hold the two primary rods in place also.  I don't see that in your pictures.

Clean out the carb slot with light brush also.  Power piston should slide easily once it is seated.  The plastic retainer should hold it firmly in place once pressed in to space.

Hope this helps.
