How Do I Set Up a Q-Jet for an Unknown Engine?

So I just rebuilt the stock 7041213 carb on the stock tired old 350 in my '71 Corvette.  I recently have acquired a fairly radical 327 for free that would be fun to swap in.    However, the engine has been sitting and the person I got it from remembers nothing about the build.  It is a higher compression (no exact number) solid lifter 327 with what appears to be double hump heads and aluminum single plane intake.  Do I just bolt the carb on and see how it runs and go from there? Or, short of disassembling the engine to measure everything, are there any precautions I should take before putting it on?

If you know it has a radical cam and low vacuum at idle, rough idle quality, etc, open up the idle system to the 3rd recipe in the book for initial testing.  You will also need our orange PP spring, and I would recommend a kit and different jets/metering rods as well.....Cliff

Thanks Cliff. I believe the rebuild kit i got from you included the orange spring but I will double check. I am going to have to get your book to see what recipe 3 is.
