I am going to attempt to build a fixture to unwarp carbs. I've got a piece of 1/2 thick plate. 8" wide.
I was thinking about running bolts through the carb in various spots with valve springs used to add a constant pressure to the "sandwich" (plate, mainbody,plate). What I was thinking was I would throw the whole mess in the oven at about 450~ for 15-20 minutes. It seems most the carbs I'm taking apart, the main body is flat across the primary section from the front of the carb and back to the inside wall of the secondary throut. When it reaches that point in starts to slope down to the rear wall of the carb. I looked at the "unwarping tool". They are out of their minds on that price. Any ideas on the heat required or design of tool? I'd like to make mine even better in function. It would be great if I could just straighten out the main body. I can straighten the airhorn with the belt sander. (just like in the book).
What about the valve spring idea? Would they hold up to 450*? I'm thinking that the slow heat and even heat of an oven would work better than using a torch etc.
