Cleaning Qjet question..

In the process of rebuilding my Qjet, and decided to take a dremel with a wire brush on it to clean it up alittle.. The 1 small corner I cleaned it took the greenish color off the carb and took it down to bare metal.. I stopped right there because I'm not sure if that is a protective coating or not..  I'm sure some fine folks on here know this answer..

 What part of the carburetor did you take the finish off of? Linkage? If so, that does have the Teflon coating that the factory put on it, to protect it from corrosion.

carmantx:
scrubbing any of it with wire brush will take the finish off.  Any harsh chemicals will also pull color off the main body and air horn.  Use some carb cleaner liquid or spray.

It was a small section at the bottom of the base.. I didn't know they used Teflon as a coating on these carbs... Thanks for the info..

 Only on the linkage. Like primary and secondary throttle shafts, accelerator pump arm, choke and accelerator pump linkage. As Carman noted above, the air horn and fuel bowl are zinc chromated, which give it a green hue. Base plate is bare aluminum.
