17057274 factory remanufactored by Holley
« on: July 14, 2016, 08:28:34 PM »
Hey all,
I was able to pick up a 17057274 carb at the  POCI nationals in Bettendorf today and it has a tag on it saying "factory remanufactored by Holley".
Is that good, bad, indifferent?  Looks to be pretty clean but am sure it will need rebuilt.  Still haven't  started on one yet, but have a few cores now to choose from.
Any thoughts appreciated!
Patrick

It isn't a good thing, but they typically aren't as bad as some of the commercial reman shops.  You will have to open it up and check it out to see if they destroyed anything.

Thanks Carmantx- I have 2 of this particular core, thinking between the 2 I could make a pretty decent one. My other core is alot rougher than this one.  anything in particular that might be suspect for "destruction" that I should be looking for?
Thank you!

Is your other core NOT a reman? I believe that is the same carb Cliff uses.

Looked for blocked bypass air passages and enlarged idle circuits.  Stripped seat threads, broken float mounts.  Mis matched parts.

Yes Ethan, I have 2 of these. The rougher one is not a reman.  Thinking I'll use  the reman for parts that have been unmolested.   How long  does the kit take  to getd once ordered?
Tks!

I would definitely use the OEM one. As for getting the kit, it shouldn't take long. Depends on where you live, Patrick. Cliff is located in Ohio, so it doesn't take long for me to get my parts (1 day).  Once they get the order though, they are pretty great at shipping it out fast. Just give them a call with what you need. Cliff usually answers the phone. Take care! Ethan
