Carter date code assistance requested
(1/1)
VITV:
Hi there.
I have 2 Quadrajets from Carter. They are both 7042220. They both have an EM which is the plant code? One has a K1 for a date code that I believe to be November 1971 which could be correct for an early 1972 car. The second carburetor has M1. This translates to the 13th month?
It was my understanding that A = Jan, B = Feb, C = Mar and so on. Any help dating this carburetor and more knowledge on identifying the dates for Carter produced Q's would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

Welcome to CHP!
Actually, K1 is October, 1971 and M1 is December, 1971. Why Rochester skipped the letter "I", I don't know.

Thank you for the info. That helps a lot.

the date code of an original/unmodified carb will never contradict the model year.
That being said, the following "calender year" cars start to be priduced around or after August.
Also, those carbs i dicate they are for 1972 model years cars;
7042220
704 = 1970-1975 early float bowl configuration
2 = 1972
The 1972 modely year cars/parts would have been produced from about August 1971 through to June 1972.
