Quadrajet for 283
Haagdakta:
Doing research on putting a quadrajet on 1963 Impala, 283 9.25:1 compression, power glide, dual exhaust, stock mufflers, stock cam, stock heads, 3.08 rear axle. First step in my research was Cliff's book. Back in the day I have probably rebuilt 50 to 75 or so Q-jet carbs, and still learned a lot from the book. Primary reason for wanting to do this project is a little more performance, of course, but primarily, some more fuel mileage. First hurdle is the intake manifold. I want to stay with the front mounted oil tube, and stock valve covers and pcv system. I have done some research on this, and found some good results were accomplished using an Edelbrock Streetmaster intake and a Q-jet carb. Although the Streetmaster intake is a single plane intake, it was designed in the 1970's during the oil crisis years as a fuel mileage intake utilizing small runners to keep velocity up. I am thinking a Q-jet from a late 70's early 80's 305 cid would be a good starting point. I realize some modifications will probably have to be made to accommodate the stock throttle linkage and kickdown linkage. I will want to run an electric choke, and I think the adjustable part throttle would be an advantage. Looking for suggestions and comments. Let 'er rip!

Pic of my 67 327 with a Qjet from a 84 305. Not sure what the linkage looks like on a 63, I'd think similar.
Haagdakta:
What intake are you running on that 327?
77cruiser:
This. But I think it's going to get changed to a Performer.

You are limited on intakes with the oil fill tube. I put a performer intake on my Vette. This intake has a spot for the tube. I had a machine shop punch the hole for the tube. I think offy might still have one with the spot for the tube as well. I think edelbrock might still have the tubes available as well. Factory Q-jet intakes with the tube have the troublesome exhaust passage that runs under the carb itself. They need the steel sandwhich gaskets. I had vapor lock issues and went with the performer. Problem solved. Cliff has this posted in the lobby section. "must read".
Jim, What kind of intake is that? I've never seen anything like that. I can't blow the pic up for a better look.
