Kicdown from Fast Idle

(1/1)

1971GTO:
Guys/Cliff,

I've set the Fast Idle as instructed per my cars Sevice Manual, so as the engine warms I assume that idle is suppose to come down automaticaly from that high-step of the Fast idle Cam, and go to more of a Curb Idle.  Well  that's not happening.

Could it be that if I back-down the Fast Idle RPM setting, it would relieve a significant amount of drag/tension against that cam, and the carb. would "idle down" on it's own as the system intended?

Or...........how long should I run it at that Fast Idle before just "kicking it down" on my own with the accellerator?

As soon as the engine starts, you should tap the gas pedal; the fast idle will drop to the second highest step of the fast idle cam if the choke pulloff and the fast idle cam linkage rod are adjusted properly.

The fast idle WILL NOT drop on its own, it will only drop when the throttle is opened enough to pull the fast idle screw off the cam, so the cam can rotate.

Alright........good to know.

Appreciate it!
