Changes to q jet???
« on: October 01, 2017, 03:34:21 PM »
Hi Cliff
You did a carb for me for my car oh couple years ago I think works well....
 1973 Firebird Navajo Orange w/shaker,1973 400/461,1972 Intake SD CNC'd, 1977 Q-Jet 800 CFM w/ Cliffs Kit,Tanks Inc PA4 255 Walbro intank pump kit ,-8an feed/return,RobbMc Regulator,RobbMc 40 micron filter,253 CFM 6x-8's w/H.S 1:5 Full Roller Rockers,SD Performance STUMP PULLER H/R Cam 230/236 @.050 112 lobe separation,565/.570 lift,Crower Solid Rollers,28150 Hedman Headers,3" X Pipe,350 Turbo,13"Continental 2800 Stall,3:42 gear,8.5 posi,C/E slide-a-links.Best 12.19 @111.66

This past winter I upgrade the cast iron intake to a Rugglized Port job care of SD Performance and changed out the x-pipe to 3 inch from 2 1/2. But retained the 2 1/2 muffler  with tailpipes...
I also added subframe connectors and had the rear springs de arched to have the car sit a little lower
I also changed tire size last year 275/60/15 ...Hoosier drag radials ...this year 255/60/15 Mickey Thompson Street SS radial
Best time is in my sig which I ran last year
This year I just can't seem to. Hit that teen night bet again

I'm just curious that with the changes do I need to fatten up the q jet some.....???
Thanks  Cliff

If you are drag racing and want to custom tune at the track we can machine a couple of sets of metering rods.  That is the best way to tune at the track vs trying to use factory rods as you don't need to change the hanger with custom rods and changes are far more accurate.....Cliff

You may actually find quicker ET's by leaning it up some.  Engine changes to make things more efficient often require less fuel than adding more fuel......Cliff

With metering rod changes at the track you just have to make a good pass with traction, change them, then repeat the scenario and see if it likes what you did?

If you are using DA rods those are .044" tips.  I'd try at least one set about .005" richer and one set .005" leaner and see how it responds.......Cliff

Metering rods ship cheap as we put them in an envelope stuck into blue foam insulation to keep them from being damaged.

$15 per pair to machine them plus shipping...
