Un-warping jig
« on: February 24, 2018, 05:25:13 AM »
After finding that my original #'s matching carb was warped, I did some searching , and figured I could something about it. I made a jig and, using another junk carb, developed a process to straighten it out.

Just throwing this out there to see if there would be any interest in these? I am just a hotrodder/machinist that is looking to pass on help to others, like so many do here. Not sure on price yet, but as with anything, the more you make, the cheaper they are.

They would be completly CNC machined and are dual purpose. Used for both the main body and airhorn.

a hydraulic press works real well . just take your time  i use small washers to shim up the high spots and apply slow even pressure to the center . i like to do this over a couple of days .take your time or you will break it.fwiw

The jig I built is two machined plates that sandwich the main body. Snug up four bolts, front two first because there is more beef in the carb. Toss in the oven. Turn to 300. Heat until plates are at 300. Retorque bolts. Turn off oven. Let cool completly. Occasionally snuggin bolts down. The same process for the air horn. Doesnt get the airhon perfect, but all it takes is a little flat filing. And that is with it still assembled with tubes and secondary air flap. The junk carb that I assembled and way over torqued was warped about a 1/8, took 3 cycles and it was flat.

Heres one I did the other day. The airhorn took one trip to the oven. The main body took two. I dont have a before pic of the main body, but it was warped maybe .050.
