O.K.  Thanks for the suggestions/explanations.  Can either of you describe how I properly adjust the choke pulloff?

Carb number? Front or rear pulloff?

Cliff Ruggles:
Correct on the choke having nothing to do with running rich right at start-up.  The pull-off controls the angle the choke flap is opened to.  They are all adjustable, early models may require bending parts, later models turning a Phillips head screw.......Cliff

Did some of the rear pulloffs have a screw to adjust?

Carb number 17058266. Has both front and rear pull offs.
