So, I'm building a rat rod, and it's powered by a '49 flathead straight six. An H-series 226 to be more specific. Sending the cam out soon to have a bit more lift and duration, bored over 0.060", head shaved 0.017". The little single barrel 94 isn't going to cut it, so I found a Qjet, and I'm building a new intake manifold for it. After a bit of research, I went with the Qjet because of the smaller primary ports, compared to the larger ones found in a Holley or edelbrock. The carb needs cleaned up since it's been on a shelf for a few years, so I'm planning a rebuild of it. Which rebuild kit would you recommend, and could you possibly give a recommendation of jet/rod sizes? Not sure if I've given enough info, but let me know if you need more. My carb number is 17058213.

Call Cliff at his shop, his kits are the best out there.  Don't buy a kit at an auto parts store, they won't last in today's fuel. 
 
    Cliff will even recommend the best jet/rod combo for your application.

That's what I think I'm going to do. Been too busy to call today, but I think I will tomorrow to see what he says. I've heard from everybody that he's the genius when it comes to these carbs.

Fridays are the best day to call here for kits and custom tuning parts.  We went to four 10 hour days in the shop, M-F.  I work Friday's by myself, doing office work and finishing up a job or two in the shop. 

I keep the phone with me but call volume is heavy after 9am or so.  If it goes to voice mail just leave a good number/message and I'll call you back.

That is an excellent carb for what you are doing, the last of the divorced choke SBC models but has the later SMAB arrangement.

It will need different jets, metering rods and PP spring for what you are doing, and a tad more idle fuel as well.  We'll put together a custom SR kit with tuning parts to get it set up exactly for what you are doing.....tks.....Cliff
