Q jet marine flame arrestor
« on: October 21, 2009, 10:36:47 AM »
Would increasing the size of my flame arrestor to get more air intake from a standard arrestor on my Q jet 454's be something that would help efficiency for instance a K&N and would that have an effect of possibly giving me a leaning out condition. I feel as though if i supply more air the performance would be better. Typical marine engines are setup on rich conditions.  Also which of if any of Cliff's power springs are the same as Edelbrock gold?

No idea at all what an Edelbrock "gold" spring specs out at?

I've also never seen any testing with the stock flame arrestors.  They don't appear to be restrictive in any way as we've tuned Big Block engines is boats on occassion, and never ran into any problems anyplace using the stock flame arrestors....cliff

I know this thread is old, but I thought the information may help others. The Edelbrock springs are listed as: gold = 4"hg, orange = 5"hg,  black = 6"hg, bright yellow = 8"hg.
