Choke Pull-Off Rod Identification
Brian B.:
Hello. Could a member please advise if either of these two choke pull-off rods is the proper one for my application? If so, which one is it? Mine was missing when I bought my car and I've been chasing this answer down for years.
Carb #7044270 1974 SD-455 Automatic
Thank you, Brian
Cliff Ruggles:
#2 is for a 1972-1977 Chevy divorced choke unit.
#1 is for 1970-74 Olds or some 73-74 Pontiac carbs. Pontiac also used similar link with a different secondary shaft with a longer slot in it on some 73-74 units......Cliff
Brian B.:
Thank You!!!
Cliff Ruggles:
I'll add here that the second style used for the 73-74 Pontiac carbs will not work with the same secondary shaft that uses the type you have. You can go the other way around if the link is missing to use the link you have, IF you remove the portion of the shaft linkage that supports the other type, it is not needed for the one you have in the pic......Cliff
Brian B.:
Great. I'll remove enough of it to avoid any interference. I was using #1 and couldn't completely tune out a 4000 rpm stumble without removing the pull-off altogether.
