The exhaust crossover needs to be open and it will not get all ate up from corrosion unless Edelbrock is casting them from very poor raw materials. 

Heat is your friend with any wet-flow system and helps thermal efficiency and effectively running and burning leaner mixtures.   Not to mention in cold weather a heated intake really makes the grade with quicker warm-ups and less negatives while the engine is warming up........Cliff
