7044232 Caddy to GM350

Hi there Cliff,

You have a terrific site and thank you for all the information here. 
I am building a 350 for my Maxum 25' cruiser and going to a quadrajet carb.  The only one I could find local was a 7044232 74 Caddy that was warped pretty bad that I was going to try to  flatten.  I was wondering what jets and rods would work well in with the 350?  The 350 was an slightly used crate EFI 320hp 5500RPM from the mid 80's that the bore and heads looked almost new with the original cross hatch no wear.  I think the cam in them was like a Corvette from that era.
I ordered a copy of your book to help me with this project.

I wouldn't change the jets and metering rods as the Caddy carbs from that period were pretty generous for fuel delivery compared to the Chevy's.  Since it's basically going on a non-emission engine it may not be too far off.....Cliff

Thank you for the quick reply, but one thing I forgot to mention was that most of my boating is at 3600 ft Lake Powell in Northern AZ.

Thanks for the help, After looking at how warped the Caddy carb was an assessing the possibility of an incident on the water and insurance companies,  I decided to find a real marine pn carb.  I was able to get a marine app carb pn 17059280 on ebay so I will be ordering one of your marine kits. Will the float I ordered for the Caddy carb kit work on the 17059280 carb?  If not I will order another one for this newer carb.  I believe it was on a 370HP 454 so as for jets and rods following your other post would your suggestion be to leave them as built and just clean and kit it?  Or will it take different jets and rods for my little 300HP 5.7.  I will wait to order until I see your suggestions for parts.

Good plan to use a real Marine unit instead.  Marine engines are heavily loaded and set up different than automotive carburetors.

That float will actually be the same one used in a Marine unit.  It will need a slight recalibration for what you are doing. Best to call the shop and we'll get you set up with the correct Marine rebuild parts and tuning parts for that engine in a Marine application......tks....Cliff
