Electric Choke code differences?
(1/1)
da_raabi:
I've noticed that there are great number of different electric choke coils available, all with different codes on them. My truck originally came with a coil with the code "8182D" on it. Does it matter if I use a different code, or should I specifically be looking for an 8182D? Does the code refer to a different opening rate or something?
Cliff Ruggles:
At one time there were over 30 different part numbers and they are all little different far as how they "clock", range of adjustment from closed to open, etc.
The one we sell is has 8182 on it nearly as I can remember and it comes with a new connector.
They "clock" with the connector in the down position and it works like it's supposed to. I have had one on my own carb coming up on 20 years now and it is flawless.
Be aware that there are a LOT of cheap E-chokes out there, most are on E-bay and aren't worth two squirts of duck poop, clock upside down, don't work well, and burn out the heating element quickly........Cliff
