Which carb to rebuild?

(1/2) > >>

WideTrack:
Have two Quadrajets, both seem to be in decent shape. I have one 17056244 from 1976 with a single choke pull off and non-electric choke and I have one 17059272 from 1979 that has an electric choke and two vacuum choke pull off's.

I'm a beginner, so be gentle!  I've been through Cliff's book several times but am not yet confident.

Frank400:
Hi there Widetrack and welcome !  Both units are dual main air bleeds 800 cfm units.  Both very good starting points.  The 79 is a Pontiac and the 76 is a Buick.

I personally built a 17059272 myself for my girlfriend's 326 Firebird.  Runs like a champ.  I've added idle air by pass because it did not have any from the factory, no big deal.  I think, not sure, that there is no large vacuum port in the front, those 301 pontiac engines came with a spacer so make sure it can be made to work with your set up.

   Frank.

WideTrack:
Thanks Frank,

Will keep reading the Cliff book and take lots of pics as I take them apart!  Cliff has one of my carbs that he's doing, but I want to try one on my own for the hell of it.

Frank400:

Indeed!  And a DETROIT Pontiac guy......Although I have been on Widetrack Drive in Pontiac from time to time when my dear old dad used to take me to Lions games.
