When to use L or a M. Metering rod?

ON my 81 carb. I was wondering only difference is power tip size. When should I use the .026 to a .036 rod? Rbudney@comcast.net

Most if not all 1981 Truck "M" units with single main air bleeds uses primary rods with suffix M .036" power tip.
