Choke Question

Been trying to finally get a working choke after 25+ years w/o one. The carb in question is a "Frankenstein". The main body is a 800cfm 7041540 (1971 Buick), the air horn should be the correct '7044929' and the base plate is definitely not the correct bp, a '7037174'. The car is a 69 Firebird 400 w/455 running the original intake, so I still have the divorced choke.

The problem is what choke parts do I need? I'm currently using:
34735 - Choke housing
40843 - Cam
37623 - Lever

When I added them, it seemed to work okay, until the next morning. One press to the gas pedal should have engaged the choke, but the blade was still open. Had to manual set it, so I think I either need to adjust it, or I have the wrong parts.

You have an early Buick choke bracket assembly on the side of the carb.

It's not the same as a 1968 Pontiac.

The attachment point it further away from the carburetor so you'll either have to do some bending on the link up from the choke or make another one.

Another option is to put a 1968-70 choke bracket on the side of the carburetor......

You can also make one out of a piece of aluminum TIG rod.  Very easy to bend vs steel and works just as well....

I'm 99.99% sure the base plate (7037174) is NOT a Buick. The top and middle housing is Buick.

Are these correct for my base plate:

34735 - Choke housing
40843 - Cam
37623 - Lever

What are the part numbers for the 68-70 choke housing, cam & lever?

Another question. Who do I adjust the choke rod? Do I push down the rod/choke stove and close the blades or do I pull up the rod/stove?

Couldn't modify my previous post.

Looks like the 34735 and 37623 are for a 1968-70 Pontiac. Makes sense now because the motor was out of a 70 Bonneville. I swapped the carb years ago.

Going to assume the fast-idle cam 40843 is for the 68-70 stuff?

You are correct on those choke parts.
Your carb is put together of at least 3 different carbs, 1971 Buick fuel bowl, 1968-70 Pontiac throttle plate (Made by Carter) and 1973-74 Buick air horn with a non-Buick choke blade axle and rod.

1965-69 Qjets uses a plastic fast idle cam, 1970 and later cam is metal.

I am posting pictures of a 1969 Pontiac 7029268 and a 1971 Buick 7045140 to compare.

Thanks for the info, Kenth, that was a big help. When I said it was a Frankenstein carb, it really is. Didn't mean to do it, it just happened. I had that carb "gone through" about 30 years ago. Don't remember who, but it was before I heard about Cliff. Car sat for 11 years and I've been driving it the past 4 years now about 1000 miles a year. Just recently tried to connect a functional choke. Hence the questions.

I installed the 34735 (bracket), 40843 (Fast-idle Cam), and 37623 (Lever).

How do I adjust the choke?

Okay, now I'm lost.

Trying to adjust the the choke rod on the stove coil. Is this where the "fit center gauge notch" is on the red arrow:

If that's the case, my rod is at least 1" too long.
