pressure testing the bottom plugs for leaks

(1/1)

DaDuck:
I just received Cliff's Quadrajet book and I am evaluating my 17057274 carb so I can put together a list of parts.  On Page 71 ---"The most reliable test for leaking bottom plugs: Apply a soap-and-water mixture over the plugs, then introduce high-pressure compressed air through the front and rear jet openings in the fuel bowl.

How much pressure for this test?????

Cliff Ruggles:
Getting a good seal on the jet holes is more important than the pressure used to do the test.

I'd like to see at least 60psi and a well fitting air nozzle.

Keep in mind that most of the later carburetors like the one you are testing do NOT leak as they used swaged in aluminum plugs, but I still recommend testing all castings to make sure....

DaDuck:
Thanks Cliff!!!!!
