Choke rod adjustment issues. Reading the instructions wrong?
« on: April 08, 2022, 03:14:33 AM »
Looking for an expert answer. Rebuilding this 17056207 carb off a '76 Corvette. I'm having an issue deciding if this is the correct way to measure the choke flap against the back wall. I've followed the instructions but I can't determine if this is correct or not.

From the back wall to the choke flap opening while on the second step of the fast idle cam should be 21/64ths of an inch. I can match that with a drill bit however because of the tiny slack in the choke arm connector (the piece that connects the linkage to the choke flap rod shaft) I get different readings.

Take a look at the video it shows exactly what I'm trying to explain.

This is off of figure 6 from the 1982 Techlit carb adjustment sheet.

Thanks!

Not an issue, the "slack" will be taken up by the atmospheric pressure on the offset mounted choke blade pushing air into the void (vacuum) under the throttle blades.

That's exactly what I was thinking. Vacuum under the throttle plates pulled downwards would allow that little extra play in the punched out linkage piece causing the choke plate to open until it's mechanical max (second step of fast idle cam in this scenario).

I just realized Gio84 was asking the same question.
