Quadrajet Problem Solving > Dialing in your rebuilt Quadrajet carburetor
Spark Plug Reading
(1/1)
Chevynation:
Hello, I pulled my plugs and they look lean to me but I would like a different opinion. Auto lite 3924. Quadrajet 7040203. Street car. I have a 383 with 10.5 compression, comp cam xr288hr, 1.6 ratio rockers, afr 195s, Edelbrock Q-jet performer manifold, rebuilt Q-jet done by Cliff, and a 4 speed. I have the timing at 26 initial, 10 mechanical, 36 total. I attached the links to the pictures. https://ibb.co/hZb7pxq

Cliff Ruggles:
It is IMPOSSIBLE to read plugs to determine anything related to being rich or lean.
A lean condition results in hesitation, stumble, bog, surging, lack of power, poor throttle response or combinations of the above.
We tune for results and with a Q-jet and the plugs will typically be white to light tan as they are very efficient carburetors........

Thanks for clarifying. I’m used to Holley’s and never ran a Q-jet so I wanted to make sure.
