Secondary hanger and rods?
Cliff Ruggles:
I just rebuilt and recalibrated that same carb for a customers who made some engine modifications. It had small main jets and really small primary metering rods in it and not doing well for him.
I went to bigger jets, metering rods and external APT in the baseplate. I also opened up the idle tubes and went to DA secondary metering rods.
The biggest problem I found with his is that it had been previously rebuilt and had a small N/S assembly in it and not keeping the bowl full.
Let me know when you are ready to do the rebuild and we can go over some specifics then and make a few changes to help it out some.....
Jeff K:
Will do, thanks so much..
Jeff K:
Hi Cliff, I'm ready for a carb tune up. I think the acc. Pump is starting to go. I'm getting a stumble when pulling out. Other than that it runs real strong. That 22216 cam really work this 454 up. I can send everything needed in the mail if you like...
Cliff Ruggles:
Best to contact me directly at the shop. I'm here 7am-4pm M-F EST. Shop phone is 740-397-2921. If I don't pick up leave a message and I'll call you back...tks..
Jeff K:
I'm finally ready!! I'll call tomorrow (Monday Aug 10)..
I have a 1978 Chevy 454 truck engine. All original, this carb was never taken apart.
I changed the cam last year to the Melling hyd. 22216 that you mentioned. Very happy with it.
I'm getting a light stumble when pulling out. I bent the acc pump arm down slightly and it smoothed out for a few hundred miles but its back.
The winter blend 10% Eth. gas must be beating the hell out of the old acc pump diaphram.
