Air cleaner gasket with adhesive

I have a NOS GM air cleaner gasket.  The gasket seals the air cleaner base to top of the carburetor.  The gasket has an adhesive side.  Is the adhesive side applied to the carburetor or the bottom of the air cleaner?

Kenth:
From what i´ve seen over the years i would say adhesive side to carburetor.
