Baseplate Question
« on: September 10, 2024, 06:15:48 AM »
I have a 7042234 Carb  from a 72 Cadillac.  The base plate, front center below the power piston has a slot.  in this slot is a metal "blade" for lack of a better term.  It appears to have been installed thru a plugged hole from the front of the plate. What is this? Should it move-it does not? Is it anything to be concerned with?  I find no reference to it in the book, instruction sheet with the rebuild kit or any other source.  Thanks in advance.

That is the early version of the APT feature, and it is a lean stop for the power piston.  It was pre-set at the factory and wasn't designed to be adjustable by the user.  I believe Cliff and others have posted about how to make it adjustable.

DO NOT mess with it in any way unless you plan on removing it and replacing it with one of my external adjustment screws.

They can be difficult to remove and in most cases it's best to leave them alone unless you plan on using the APT feature for custom tuning.
